The data link provided was to CR testing. They didn't test or include the Spark EV.

The EPA Combined Fuel Economy of the i3 is 124 MPGe and the Spark EV is 119 MPGe. But if we look at the EPA electric range and the usable battery capacity of the Spark EV and i3, the numbers tell a different story. The EPA ranges are 82 mi (Spark EV) and 81 mi (i3) but the usable battery is 17.6 kWh (Spark EV) and 18.8 kWh (i3). The Spark EV goes further using less energy.

The i3 is widely touted as the most efficient EV, but I haven't been able to reconcile these numbers that indicate the Spark EV is actually 8% more efficient. Do you have any thoughts on what might cause the discrepancy between my simple calculation and the EPA Combined Fuel Economy data? I know the EPA Fuel Economy calculations include wall-to-battery charging losses, but I wouldn't think that those losses would be significantly different between these cars.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06468049369484004487noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5338685099176953133.post-16864941264895286452016-07-04T12:44:17.333-07:002016-07-04T12:44:17.333-07:00Way to go Tom!Way to go Tom!The Norby'shttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04485407536555106838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5338685099176953133.post-77402264945771123922016-06-25T14:12:48.469-07:002016-06-25T14:12:48.469-07:00Dam right it's awesomeDam right it's awesomeTom Machttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11688088996522859122noreply@blogger.com
